Dehradun: Deepak Dhapola is making a habit of running through teams and setting up matches for Uttarakhand in their debut Ranji season. After dismantling Bihar with figures 6/13 on Uttarakhand’s debut, Dhapola ripped apart Manipur’s batting lineup with a spell of 7/50 as the visitors were bowled out for a mere 137 here on Monday.Dhapola made the most of the helpful conditions at their home and was in no mood to let the momentum slip after an emphatic start to their maiden first-class season against Bihar nine days ago. Dhapola’s exploits laid the platform for the batsmen to build a big lead. Unlike the first match, however, the batsmen looked shaky but managed to maintain command over the match as they went to stumps at 123/5.After Uttarakhand captain Rajat Bhatia sent the opposition in to bat for the second time in a row, Dhapola dished out a tough time for the Manipur batsmen as the ball jagged around on a nippy early-winter morning.Dahpola seemed to be following a script as half of the Manipur batting lineup was back in the pavilion inside the first session even Prafullomani and an experienced Yashpal Singh showed some resilience with a 40-run third-wicket partnership. Once Sunny Kashyap bowled Prafullomani, the flood gates opened for the home side. Manipur captain Yashpal was the highest scorer with 38 to his name.In response, Uttarakhand openers Karanveer Kaushal and pro Vineet Saxena got the team off to a solid start with 59-run stand. Once Saxena fell for 27, the middle-order suffered a wobble. Karanveer, star in the first match with a score of 91, was dismissed for 45. Uttarakand has captain Bhatia at the crease with a set Vaibhav batting on 18.After the day’s play, Bhatia said that the team will look to capitalise on its performance. “Our bowlers have bowled really well on Day one and we will not be looking to get a very good lead over Manipur. The team still has five batsmen to go and will look to score as many runs as possible, giving our bowlers enough space to bowl the Manipuri team out,” Bhatia said.
