Dowry death alleged in Rudrapur

Rudrapur: A 26-year-old married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday at her house in Preet Vihar colony of the city, police said. The deceased has been identified as Anita alias Anu.The woman’s family members alleged that she was killed by her in-laws as they used to torture her for not bringing enough dowry . He has demanded registration of a case of murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy against Anita's husband and his family,” said city police station incharge, Kailash Chandra Bhatt. In his complaint to police, Chandrapal of Badaun, UP, said his daughter was married to Rakesh Kumar in 2017 and soon after the marriage, Anita was tortured for bringing insufficient dowry.“She was murdered on Thursday night and her in-laws did not even inform us about the tragedy. We were informed by someone from the neighbourhood regarding Anita’s death,” he alleged.According to the police officials, the woman was found dead after she purportedly consumed a poisonous substance at her home.“The body has been sent for postmortem and we have begun investigation based on the statement of the victim's father but no case had been registered yet.
