Dehradun: Sunil Uniyal Gama’s residence at Neshvilla Road was engulfed in festive fervour on polling day, with scores of BJP workers exchanging sweets and clicking selfies with the BJP mayoral candidate. While the results for the civic body elections will be announced on Tuesday, the BJP camp seemed confident of securing a win with party workers flashing victory signs. The BJP has been eyeing support in the 40 newly carved wards. “The voters in the new wards would vote for the BJP because they want development and better facilities,” said BJP worker Rajeev Verma Meanwhile, three-time MLA and former minister Dinesh Agarwal , the Congress candidate for the mayoral polls, also interacted with voters at various polling centres. Some had also started practising for the victory rally by belting out jingles like “Saare Ke Saare Gama ko Lekar Gatte Chaley” which they had prepared for the occasion.Gama, who visited 30 polling stations in various wards earlier in the day, said, “In all polling stations, the people’s enthusiasm was remarkable.

The BJP-wave is visible everywhere in the city.” Gama also claimed that “a high voting percentage means that people were coming to vote for the BJP in large numbers.” Gama went to cast his vote at the Sophia High School at Neshvilla Road early in the morning.After delimitation, the city now has 100 wards. The BJP has been eyeing support in the 40 newly carved wards. “The voters in the new wards would vote for the BJP because they want development and better facilities,” said BJP worker Rajeev Verma Meanwhile, three-time MLA and former minister Dinesh Agarwal , the Congress candidate for the mayoral polls, also interacted with voters at various polling centres. Agarwal who cast his vote at Guru Nanak Girls Inter College at Race Course said that he was confident of winning the coveted post of the mayor with a “convincing margin”.He added, “The work done by me during my tenure as minister as well as the poor performance of the BJP in the state would work in my favour.”
