Dehradun: For Congress, the civic polls results were better than expected as the party was leading on three mayoral seats in seven municipal corporations till the time of filing this report. Party’s former state president Kishore Upadhyay said that he wasn’t even invited for the campaigning for the civic polls. Not many prominent leaders except state chief Pritam Singh were seen canvassing for candidates. The opposition party also managed to secure around 120 seats of councillors and was leading on 30 more till late night.Incidentally, Congress couldn’t win even a single mayoral seats in civic elections of 2013. The party had also secured lesser number of councillors in last urban body polls.Many observers were not expecting Congress to put up a good performance considering that the party had seen major infighting just before the urban body polls.
