DEHRADUN: In a first of its kind order, the Supreme Court asked the Uttarakhand government on Thursday to take over the land, building and assets of privately owned Shridev Suman Subharti Medical College within 24 hours and run it as a government medical college.
“The medical college tried to get affiliation from Subharti University which left the students unhappy.
The court has also directed DGP Dehradunt o seal the SSSMC campus with immediate effect.
The order was passed after a writ petition was filed by 74 medical students (all NEET pass-outs) who complained that Subharti Trust had defaulted in its responsibilities including obtaining necessary affiliation and permissions from the Medical Council of India.
The MCI in 2017 had denied permission to the institute to admit students in the next academic session.
