CPU in US Nagar to use swipe machines for cashless spot fine collection

Rudrapur: Udham Singh Nagar district's senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Saturday launched the cashless spot fine collection system by arming the City Patrol Unit (CPU) officers with swiping machines to collect fine through an e-Challan system. All the transactions made using the POS machines will have digital records that cannot be tampered with, he added. To begin with, HDFC bank has handed over 15 POS machines to the CPU.“Under the new cashless system, violators could pay the spot fine amount using either their debit card or credit card. Traffic violators who receive challans can now pay fine instantly using their credit or debit cards. The fine amount paid through card system would directly go into the government account.

Traffic rule violators can henceforth pay fine cases booked against them using their debit or credit card to the duty police personnel instead of paying in cash.As of now CPU officers at Rudrapur and Kashipur have been provided these machines, while the department plans to provide machines to traffic police in other cities of the district also.As a part of bringing in transparency in the system, the CPU will use Point of Sale (POS) swiping machines to collect fine for traffic offences. Traffic violators who receive challans can now pay fine instantly using their credit or debit cards. The machines have been provided by coordinating with the HDFC bank, according to SSP Krishna Kumar VK.He said that cashless transactions using the swiping machines will help the force get rid of irregularities alleged in fine collection and it will also save time. To begin with, HDFC bank has handed over 15 POS machines to the CPU.“Under the new cashless system, violators could pay the spot fine amount using either their debit card or credit card. We will coordinate with banks and will soon be providing such machines to traffic police in other cities too,” SSP VK said. The fine amount paid through card system would directly go into the government account. All the transactions made using the POS machines will have digital records that cannot be tampered with, he added.
