Dehradun: In yet another fallout of the poll debacle the Congress party suffered in the recently-concluded civic body elections in the state, the party’s state leadership showed the door to five of its leaders, including state general secretary Khajan Pandey and Nainitial district president Maruti Shah. With the latest round of action, Congress has so far suspended some 90 members for anti-party activities in the aftermath of local body elections.Talking to TOI, Congress vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana said that party’s state general secretary Khajan Pandey has been suspended after allegations of anti-party activities against him and others turned out to be true during an internal probe. Pandey, known as a close aide of former CM Harish Rawat, was initially targeted by the leader of opposition, Indira Hridayesh, who blamed Rawat’s aides for her son’s defeat in Haldwani civic polls.“Apart from Khajan Pandey, Congress district president of Nainital Maruti Shah, Congress Sevadal head in Chamoli, Sanjay Rawat, head of Congress SC’s wing in Rudraprayag, Kunwar Lal Arya, have been suspended from the party for six years,” said Dhasmana. He added that more party members are being interrogated and all those who will be found involved in anti-party activities will have to pay the price.Leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh, in a written complaint to Congress state coordinator Anugreh Narain Singh, had said that her son, Sumit Hridayesh, was “on the verge of victory but lost the election because of her own partymen who were jealous of him after he got the ticket”. Hridayesh, who was indirectly targeting senior Congress leaders and former chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat, said that she will be sending a detailed report on this to Congress president Rahul Gandhi.Reacting to his suspension, Khajan Singh expressed dissatisfaction over his suspension and said that he will contact the party high command in Delhi.“They should have spoken to me and asked for my explanation. I only received the letter of my suspension and that too for something that I haven’t done. I will contact the party high command in Delhi against this injustice,” said Singh.“We have conducted a thorough investigation and all those who were found guilty have been suspended. The decision has been taken by the party high command,” state Congress chief Pritam Singh added.
