Pharmacists wear black ribbons at work, demand cadre restructuring

Failing to get required support, the pharmacists have decided to sit on hunger strike in director general's office. Dehradun: The pharmacists of Uttarakhand in the fourth phase of their protest demanding cadre restructuring, wore black ribbons while at work on Wednesday.They expressed resentment against the state government for not hearing their long-pending demand which entails several issues ranging from adequate promotions to allowance at par to other cadres. Currently there are only 14 posts of DPO of which 12 posts are lying vacant,” added Kukreti.The pharmacists will continue working while wearing black ribbons on their arms till December 15. They said that ever since state was formed in 2000, pharmacists haven't seen cadre restructuring causing inconvenience to them.Speaking with TOI, chairperson of Diploma Pharmacists Association, Sudha Kukreti said, “At present there are only 13% promotion avenues in pharmacist cadre, whereas in other cadres like doctors have 52%, nursing cadre has 35% and ministerial cadre has 68% avenues. From December 17 to December 20 they will push the MLA and MPs of respective districts to write a letter to the chief minister, in support of their demand.

There are no posts of pharmacists hence, no promotions for them.”The pharmacists are stating that by doing cadre review not only they will get appropriate promotions but it will also help with functioning of each health facility in a proper way.“We are demanding one post each of District Pharmacy Officer (DPO) at CHC level. Currently there are only 14 posts of DPO of which 12 posts are lying vacant,” added Kukreti.The pharmacists will continue working while wearing black ribbons on their arms till December 15. From December 17 to December 20 they will push the MLA and MPs of respective districts to write a letter to the chief minister, in support of their demand.
