DEHRADUN: Demanding cancellation of hike in house tax Congress members under the leadership of city Congress chief Lalchand Sharma on Friday submitted a memorandum to the municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande.The Congress workers said that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) had increased house tax three years ago and this time’s sudden increase will be an extra burden on residents.Sharma said, “We wouldn’t mind paying the increased taxes if the civic body provides the facilities. “The area under the civic body has expanded after the addition of 40 new wards and the municipal corporation needs money to fulfill the city’s requirements. Their promise of regular door-to-door garbage collection is yet to be achieved and waste is dumped on the roads. How do we then accept the hike in house tax.”In August, a committee formed by Jogdande had proposed to revise house tax rates, but the move had evoked stiff resistance from various resident welfare associations (RWAs), following which the decision was kept on hold.Meanwhile, mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama terming the hike as nominal said that it won’t affect the people.
