DEHRADUN: Patients at the dialysis section of Coronation Hospital in Dehradun have written to the chief medical superintendent (CMS) alleging serious irregularities in the functioning of the unit (which is being run by a private entity) since the past few months. The six-point allegations signed by 13 patients, a copy of which is with TOI, reads, “There is threat to lives as in case of power cuts, the generator takes a long time to switch on. When the dialysis machines stop midway, blood starts coagulating. This causes serious discomfort to patients and can also harm them in the long run.”JP Rawat, a patient, said, “I have been coming to this hospital for the past few years and never have I witnessed such bad services. RO water is required to conduct dialysis but this hospital is using normal water for the procedure. Also, the behaviour of the staff is very rude. We have complained about the issue many times but nobody took any action. So this time we have written to the CMS and we hope to see better services.”Echoing similar sentiments, another patient Manju said, “I come here often but now I have started fearing for my life. Sometimes, the staff administers injections inappropriately and sometimes they even fail to check blood pressure of patients. The situation is so bad that on most days the doctor doesn’t visit the unit after 1 pm.” She added that they have earlier complained to the manager of the unit but it proved futile.Rawat added, “For the past few months, the dialysis unit is being run by a private firm under a Private Public Partnership model. The company is giving poor training to new students and they botch up the procedure."The hospital's CMS Dr BC Ramola meanwhile said that he has received the complaint and will look into the matter. “I have checked the RO water issue myself and found that for dialysis, normal water is being used. I am looking into the matter and a committee under the aegis of a medical officer of Coronation Hospital has been set up to study each of the allegations so that we can take action as per rules of the department.”
