PMHS doctors don black ribbon protesting DGrsquos gag order

Dehradun: Following last week’s gag order by director general of health and family welfare Dr TC Pant, directing all chief medical officers to not grant leaves for attending meetings of provincial medical health services (PMHS), doctors donned black ribbons in protest on Monday.The PMHS doctors are demanding implementation of dynamic assured career progression and registration of those doctors who have acquired post-graduation degrees from Uttar Pradesh in Uttarakhand Medical Council. Their strike would affect around seven NHM schemes in the state.Further worsening the poor condition of the state health infrastructure, Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers have also threatened to go on strike. They are also protesting the transfer of the PMHS general secretary from Dehradun.Chairman of PMHS Uttarakhand, Dr DP Joshi, said, “Till all our demands are met, we will continue with our protests.”Meanwhile, contractual workers under government’s National Health Mission (NHM) said they will also go on strike from Wednesday demanding job regularisation.
