Indian Medical Association (IMA) Uttarakhand demands that the national and state health programs like Aysuhman Bharat and Atal Ayushman Yojana should be an optional feature and no clinical establishment act should force private doctors to adopt them. DEHRADUN: Agitated over the ‘failure’ of the state government to bring about the changes suggested by the IMA in the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, private doctors of the state have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from February 15 and keep their clinics (or hospitals) closed if their demands are not met. But, it is yet to be enforced in its full form as the Uttarakhand medical body has been pressing for an all new ‘Uttarakhand Health Establishment Act’ in its place.According to the district administration, out of 2,000 private medical clinics in the state, comprising of all medical streams, only 307 have been registered under the Act. The doctors are also not happy with the provision of strict punishment in case if they don’t implement the public heath schemes.Secretary general of IMA Uttarakhand, Dr DD Choudhury, said, “We are pressing for a new Act but our demand didn’t receive any positive response from the administration, hence, closure is our last resort.”The Uttarakhand government had passed the Act in 2016.
