Major Chitresh Bisht cremated with full state honours in Haridwar

HARIDWAR/DEHRADUN: The mortal remains of Major Chitresh Bisht, who was killed in an IED blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday, were consigned to flames with full state honours in Haridwar on Monday. "Several other senior state BJP leaders, including Uttarakhand BJP chief Ajay Bhatt, and Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh, were also present at the funeral. "Major Chitresh's father, SS Bisht, a retired police inspector, said in a choked voice, "He was always in a hurry, and now he has left us hurriedly. He had told me that I danced well and had invited me to dance during his marriage procession scheduled for March 7.

The late Army officer's cousin lit the pyre amid chants of Vande Mataram in Haridwar's Kharakhari cremation ground.Nearly 2,500 people, including chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat , bid an emotional adieu to the martyr in Dehradun.Emotions ran high among the crowd which gathered in front of the slain major's house in Nehru Colony in Dehradun when the coffin wrapped in the tricolour reached his home on Monday morning from the military hospital. According to family members, the preparations were in full swing for the marriage but the news plunged everyone in gloom.
