While it was a clean sweep for the Congress in 2009, BJP won all five Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2014. In both 2009 and 2014, Uttarakhand saw a 5-0 result in Lok Sabha polls. Dehradun: In Uttarakhand, the party that rules the state finds it hard to win any of the five Lok Sabha seats, previous trends have shown. In 2014, Congress had sitting MPs Pradeep Tamta and K C Singh Baba as party candidates from Almora and Nainital respectively. "Congress state chief Pritam Singh meanwhile said that "the BJP government in the state had failed to bring a Lokayukta and instead of prohibition, revenue target from liquor was being increased each year."

Dehradun: In Uttarakhand, the party that rules the state finds it hard to win any of the five Lok Sabha seats, previous trends have shown. In both 2009 and 2014, Uttarakhand saw a 5-0 result in Lok Sabha polls. While it was a clean sweep for the Congress in 2009, BJP won all five Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2014. When Congress won all five seats in 2009, the BJP was in power in Uttarakhand and when Congress had its government in the state in 2014, BJP won all five seats.Poll watchers say that anti-incumbency may be playing a role in delivering such kind of results as voters tend to favour a party which is not in power in the state while choosing their Lok Sabha representatives. Speaking about the trend, political analyst Jay Singh Rawat told TOI, “The hills are still a long way from seeing development and migration has continued unabated. People generally vote against the ruling political outfit of the state during Lok Sabha polls due to anger against inaction of the politicians.”In 2009, the opposition Congress won all five seats with a total vote-share of 43.13% and in 2014, the BJP won with 34.1% vote-share.In 2009, BJP had gone for prominent names like Bachi Singh Rawat from Nainital, ace shooter Jaspal Rana from Tehri, Lt Gen (retd) T P S Rawat from Pauri, Swami Yatindranand Giri from Haridwar and Ajay Tamta from Almora. In 2014, Congress had sitting MPs Pradeep Tamta and K C Singh Baba as party candidates from Almora and Nainital respectively. From Haridwar, the then CM Harish Rawat’s wife Renuka was the Congress nominee. Former CM Vijay Bahuguna’s son Saket contested from Pauri while the Congress had placed its bet on Harak Singh Rawat from Pauri.BJP spokesperson and MLA from Vikasnagar Munna Singh Chauhan meanwhile, said that not much should be read in the '5-0 trend.' "The Congress win in 2009 was a fluke and when people realised that a wrong choice was made, they voted in favour of the BJP in 2014”. Chauhan said. He added, “The BJP will win all five seats again. We have strengthened road, air and rail connectivity in Uttarakhand through Char Dham all-weather road, UDAN scheme and work on Rishikesh-Karnaprayag and other rail projects. We are providing interest-free loan to farmers and self-help women groups. Efforts are being made to check migration by encouraging self employment in the hills."Congress state chief Pritam Singh meanwhile said that "the BJP government in the state had failed to bring a Lokayukta and instead of prohibition, revenue target from liquor was being increased each year." He claimed that the two-year tenure of BJP in the state was “nothing but a complete failure.”It remains to be seen now whether the 5-0 pattern will get repeated in this year's polls, or the trend will get bucked.
