Dehradun: Triggering speculations in political circles, Congress leader Manish Khanduri and former BJP state chief Teerath Singh Rawat were among the nine candidates who collected nomination papers for the Pauri Lok Sabha constituency on Monday. While Khanduri’s candidature is being considered almost final for the seat, Teerath Singh Rawat’s move triggered speculations since there has been a lot of suspense regarding BJP’s candidate for the Pauri constituency. Both the BJP and the Congress are yet to formally announce their candidates. A number of names are said to be in the reckoning for Pauri as far as BJP is concerned. These include candidates from a defence background like Rear Admiral (retd) OP Rana as well as former principal of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering Col (retd) Ajay Kothiyal. Many poll watchers were seeing the move by Teerath Singh Rawat to collect nomination papers as an indication that the party had finally zeroed in on his candidature. Notably, in the 2017 asssembly polls, Teerath was denied a ticket on grounds that the party had to accommodate Satpal Maharaj who was named as candidate from Chaubattakhal assembly constituency. Later, Teerath was made a secretary in the national wing of the BJP.If Manish Khanduri and Teerath Rawat are pitched against each other in the upcoming polls, Pauri Lok Sabha seat is sure to witness an interesting fight since Manish is the son of sitting BJP MP Major Gen (retd) BC Khanduri and Teerath is a close aide of the senior Khanduri. The other seven leaders to pick up nomination papers were Shiv Singh, Mahangi Ram, Aanmani Joshi, Vinod Prasad Nautiyal, Kailiash Chandra Trivedi, Sant Lal and Mukesh Semwal.Meanwhile, a few candidates picked up nominations forms in other constituencies as well. From the Tehri constituency, it was sitting BJP MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, independent candidate Rajni Rawat and Congress leader Asha Manorama Dobriyal. Among others to pick up nomination papers were Pradeep Tamta of Congress (from Almora) and Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi of BSP (from Nainital).
