Rudrapur: State education minister Arvind Pandey and 19 others, along with over 120 unidentified people, were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Tuesday for attacking a sub inspector of Kundeshwari police outpost.The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when more than 100 people consisting of sand miners and transporters, led by minister Pandey, barged into the police station to confront sub-inspector Arjun Giri Goswami after he impounded four overloaded dumpers near National stone crusher in Govind Nagar area earlier in the day.Miffed with Goswami, the crowd started attacking the officer. “The SI locked himself in his office when the mob went berserk. I was informed and reached the spot with heavy police force and disbanded the crowd,” said Kashipur police station in charge, Chanchal Sharma.He added, “The accused have not only attacked police personnel on duty, but also violated the model code of conduct which does not allow more than four people to gather without permission.”Officer Sharma said the district's senior superintendent of police, Barinderjit Singh, has taken the matter seriously and ordered to book all the people, including the minister, for attacking SI Goswami.“We have booked them under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (break the public peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). We have launched a manhunt and in due time all the accused will be behind bars,” said SHO Sharma.Notably, Arvind Pandey has had a controversial history. In 2015, he was arrested by police after a case was filed against him for allegedly alleged assaulting nayab tehsildar Sher Singh Gwal. He spent more than two months in prison before being granted bail.In April 2013, he was arrested and sent to jail on charges of creating ruckus at national highway.
