In school gangrape case too seniors were perpetrators

Dehradun: The gruesome murder of 12-year-old Vasu Yadav, student of a boarding school in the Ranipokhari area, who was brutally beaten up his seniors, students of class XII, for allegedly stealing a packet of biscuits, has quite a few similarities with the shocking gang-rape of a Class X boarding school student by her seniors.In both the cases, the victim’s seniors were the perpetrators of the crime, and there were lapses on the part of the respective schools. In the gang-rape case, the school administration was found to have tried to cover up the incident. The girl was taken to a hospital for abortion and even given home remedies to terminate the pregnancy. In the recent case, Vasu’s body was buried hurriedly inside the school campus and his cause of death was told to be food poisoning till the postmortem report revealed otherwise.TOI spoke to the girl’s lawyer, Aruna Negi Chauhan, and found that the gang-rape case is languishing in the district court and all the three school administrators – the director, his wife and principal – are currently out on bail. “We are cross-examining the witnesses in the case but the school officials were granted bail months ago,” she said. Dehradun chief education officer, Asha Rani Painyuli said that the school’s no objection certificate (NOC) has been revoked and the CBSE, too, has de-affiliated the school. “The school’s NOC was withdrawn the moment it was found that the school had played a role in the cover-up,” she said.
