Since taking over as the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has been grabbing headlines quite often with his statements. After making headlines over his controversial "ripped jeans" comment made a factual error when he said in his speech that "America enslaved India for 200 years."

America, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the whole world, is struggling

In a video of his speech, CM Rawat can be heard saying, "America, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the whole world, is struggling" to control the coronavirus pandemic.

Addressing a programme in Nainital`s Ramnagar on Sunday, CM Rawat apparently confused Britain with the US, saying, "As opposed to other countries, India is doing better in terms of handling the COVID-19 crisis. America, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world, is struggling in current times," he said.

Reacting to the comment, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala taunted the BJP over its selection of Rawat as the Uttarakhand CM.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Surjewala said he picks such "learned talent". He also mocked Rawat’s statement that the US ruled over India for 200 years.

People will start accepting Modi as God

Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat had also stated in an event in Haridwar that Modi is a miracle. He said, in the Treta and Dwapara Yuga, Ram and Krishna have happened. Rama also did the work of the society, then people started considering him as God. In the coming times, people will see Narendra Modi as a God, an avatar of Vishnu. The work that Narendra Modi is doing is hailing just like Ram.

The famous "Ripped" jeans statement

The Chief Minister made a controversial comment in Dehradun at a workshop organized by the Commission on Protection of Child Rights on the trend of increasing intoxication among children. He said that he is surprised when he sees the youth walking around wearing torn jeans. Referring to a memoir, he said that he was sitting on a flight from Jaipur to Delhi. A woman was sitting next to him. The woman ran an NGO, while her husband was a professor in a college. The woman wore gumboots at her feet and torn jeans at her knees. She also had two children with the woman. The Chief Minister said that the NGO runs, the husband is a professor in JNU, the knees are torn, they go in the middle of the society, the children are together. What sanskaras are you giving? This statement caused a wildfire, and many showed their disdain.

Rawat also got caught on `shorts` statement

Another controversial statement after Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat`s torn jeans went viral on social media on Thursday. In this, he is seen making controversial remarks about the fashion of female students studying in the university. The latest viral video of the Chief Minister is also of the program of the Protection of Child Rights Commission two days ago. In it, he recalls memories of his college days - when I used to study in Srinagar University. A girl came from Chandigarh. “Thi Pahad ki came from Chandigarh to Srinagar. Her half… cut… what do you say.” So, boys were watching her inappropriately. You have come to study at the university, why… what will happen…
