Uttarakhand police have identified 1438 children in a campaign against begging in Dehradun. Of these, about 735 will be enrolled in various schools by the UK police. The initiative started on March 1, which will continue until April 30.

The `objective of the campaign` is to stop beggary among children, to make the public aware of not giving alms, to motivate children involved in begging for education. Various government and non-government organizations are also cooperating in the initiative.

The campaign aims to effectively prevent children from beggary through effective information gathered by running integrated drives with government and non-governmental organizations.

Ashok Kumar (Director General of Police) said that this campaign was started to educate children seeking alms on the streets. In the first phase, children have been identified for admission to schools. These children will be enrolled in coordination with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or Education Department. If children are in any need, then the cooperation of NGOs will be sought.

Four teams are working in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital. In other districts, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit is associated with this campaign. A team has also been formed in Railways. The campaign is divided into three phases. The first phase will be running from March 1 to March 15, the second from March 16 to 31 and the third from April 1 to April 30. The first phase of the campaign was conducted from March 1 to 15.
