Mahakumbh: Largest religious gathering amid Covid, No protocols being followed

In the meantime, common devotees will not be able to take a dip in the Ganges at Har Ki Pauri Brahmakund on the special bathing festivals that are held continuously for the next three days in Mahakumbh.    

The country is witnessing the second wave of Coronavirus cases, the latest record jumps up to 1 lakh 70 thousand in 24 hours and with this threat, India is balancing the assembly polls and the Mahakumbh in Haridwar.

Uttarakhand is also jumping up with the active number of cases in the state, and it is widely seen people violating social distancing across India especially Haridwar due to Mahakumbh. This is when more than 400 new Corona cases were reported in Haridwar on Sunday.

The first royal bath is being held today at Har Ki Pauri. Early morning the devotees took holy dip in the Ganges during which there was zero sign of social distancing or any fear of the virus attack.

Kumbh Mela IG Sanjay Gunjyal says, "If we take strict action to follow social distancing, a stampede-like situation can occur. Therefore, we are unable to implement social distancing here. We are constantly appealing to people to behave according to the corona, but due to the huge crowd, it is difficult to execute the challan.

He added, `The general public has been allowed to take bath till 7 am. Now Har Ki Pauri has been reserved for the bathing of the saints and saints of the arena’.
