  • | Wednesday | 28th July, 2021

Kawadis restricted in Uttarakhand amid covid.

Religious rituals seem priority even during the pandemic. Despite the cancellation of Kavad Yatra, some devotees are travelling to Haridwar to take Kawad.

The administration is keeping a close watch on the kavadis reaching Haridwar by trains. More than 400 Kanwaris have been returned to Haridwar railway station so far. All the passengers who got off the train at Haridwar and its adjoining railway stations are being screened and the Kanwariyas disguised as passengers are being identified and returned.

Local people and people coming for bone immersion etc. are allowed outside the station premises, but not for Kawadis. GRP is engaged in continuous action at railway stations. The GRP has made a special eye on the group of youth. GRP`s SP Manoj Katyal says that police forces are also deployed on all the borders of the district to prevent the Kawadiyas from entering the Haridwar border. But the passengers who are reaching Haridwar by train for the purpose of taking Kavad are being sent back by shuttle buses. GRP is keeping an eye on railway stations like Jwalapur, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Motichur including Haridwar.
