DEHRADUN: The womens division of the Congress, alongside senior state leaders, organised a protest in Dehradun to press for justice for the family of the victim in the Rishikesh resort murder case. Jyoti Rautela, the state women Congress chief, and several other female members of the party opted for a symbolic gesture by having their heads shaved during the protest.Hundreds of Congress members, under the leadership of state Congress chief Karan Mahra and opposition leader Yashpal Arya, initiated a march towards the chief ministers residence and the governors house. Their progress was halted by police barricades at Hathibarkala, and despite efforts, they were not permitted to advance any further.While chanting slogans against the state government regarding the resort murder case, Rautela and her fellow protesters decided to have their heads tonsured as a show of solidarity. "It is unfortunate that it has been over a year, but the family members are still awaiting justice. We will continue with our protest till justice is done in the matter," said Rautela. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand BJP strongly criticised the decision of Congress members to undergo head tonsuring. "This action appears to be politically motivated. The protest seemed to be more focused on grabbing attention," said BJP media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan.
