Rishikesh resort murder: Cong stages protest demanding justice for victim’s family

Dehradun: The womens division of the Congress, alongside senior state leaders, organised a protest in Dehradun to press for justice for the family of the victim in the Rishikesh resort murder case. Jyoti Rautela, the state women Congress chief, and several other female members of the party opted for a symbolic gesture by having their heads shaved during the protest.Hundreds of Congress members, under the leadership of state Congress chief Karan Mahra and opposition leader Yashpal Arya, initiated a march towards the chief ministers residence and the governors house. Their progress was halted by police barricades at Hathibarkala, and despite efforts, they were not permitted to advance any further.While chanting slogans against the state government regarding the resort murder case, Rautela and her fellow protesters decided to have their heads tonsured as a show of solidarity. "It is unfortunate that it has been over a year, but the family members are still awaiting justice. We will continue with our protest till justice is done in the matter, said Rautela. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand BJP strongly criticised the decision of Congress members to undergo head tonsuring. "This action appears to be politically motivated. The government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which resulted in the arrest of the resort owner and two others involved in the case. The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with the victims family and vowed to ensure the safety of all women in the state.One more arrested in connection with murder of 4-member familyOne more person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a family in Kallakinaru village in Tirupur district. The arrested person, I Selvam, was aiding the murderers and is the elder brother of the prime accused. Selvam met with an accident while trying to evade the police during a vehicle check and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Three other individuals have already been arrested in connection with the murders.
