NIA raids houses of 2 arms dealers in Doon & US Nagar

Dehradun/Rudrapur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided houses and shops of two arms dealers in Dehradun and Bajpur area in Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday. The raids were conducted as part of a major crackdown launched by NIA on the Khalistani-gangster nexus across multiple states.According to a state police officer privy to details regarding NIA action, the agency raided the residence and arms shop of Parikshit Negi in Dehradun and Asim Ahmed in Bajpur. The officer said, Negi was earlier arrested by Delhi police from Dehradun in August last year for allegedly smuggling 2,251 live cartridges to Delhi ahead of Independence Day celebrations for a suspected terror act. On Wednesday, an NIA team with assistance of local police reached Negis home in Clement Town around 5am. They questioned his family at home, he added.SSP, Dehradun, Ajai Singh, said the raid continued through the afternoon. The raids were related to suspicious terror activities. Apart from this, no other details can be divulged considering the operations secrecy, the SSP said. The NIA raided Ahmeds house around 4.30am. Ahmed, son of Shakeel Ahmed who is an accused in the 2016 Nabha jail break case in Punjab, was released from jail four months ago.A district police officer on the condition of anonymity said, Ahmed was suspected of having links with Khalistani elements and gangsters linked with them. He was on the radar of agencies for suspicious activities after his release. He added, The central agency also picked up some suspects for questioning. Shaheer is being interrogated based on statements made by another arrested suspect, Nabeel, who claimed that Shaheer helped him abscond. The NIA had raided Shaheers house and seized documents and digital devices. Shaheer had been working abroad before returning to India. The NIA has arrested multiple suspects in the case and stated that the module was involved in raising funds for IS activities and planning terror attacks.
