Forest dept workers protest over salaries

Dehradun: Workers of the forest department expressed anger against the department for non-payment of salaries for over eight months, despite being given repeated assurances and against the failure to provide promotions to the forest guards. Around 500 contract workers and forest guards from different forest divisions converged at the headquarters and staged separate sit-in protests on Monday.The protests did not yield any result and the workers are likely to continue their stir on Tuesday as well.We are around 39 people in Kalagarh Tiger Reserve out of which nearly 25 are here at the protest site because we havent been paid. Our absence from duty will impact functioning of the department, so we hope the authorities consider our demands favourably, said Pawan Negi, one of the protesting members. All we want is a lawful procedure in promotions, said Kakka Kashyap, general secretary of Uttarakhand Forest Guard Union.
