2 charged with power theft under UPCL drive

Dehradun: Two persons were booked for alleged power theft in Selaqui area of Dehradun on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. The two accused were Jairam Singh Rawat, resident of Rajawala village, and Rakesh Pundir, resident of Baluwala village of Sahaspur. Assistant sub-inspector Balkrishna Deoli said the two men were booked under sections of the Electricity Act based on the complaint by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) official in Selaqui, Atol Singh Rawat. The accused were illegally extracting electricity to their homes by putting a cable on the 33kV line. They were caught in the ongoing statewide drive of UPCL to curb power theft.
