Met issues heavy rain, landslide advisory for Char Dham

DEHRADUN: The meteorological centre on Tuesday issued a heavy rain advisory for parts of the state, especially those that fall on the Char Dham route. A teenaged girl in a village near Mussoorie died after the wall of her house collapsed following heavy rain in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Dehradun was lashed by very heavy showers on Monday with Met office recording 180mm of rainfall while Mussoorie recorded 150mm of rain within a few hours. In the hill town, rain also triggered traffic snarls and landslides at several locations. The Met office has also warned pilgrims against landslides and road blockages in the next three days in hilly regions near the four shrines.Bikram Singh, director, Meteorological Centre, said, “Keeping in mind the expected spell of heavy rainfall in the hills, we have issued a general advisory regarding possibility of landslide and road blockages in vulnerable areas in the next couple of days.”The public and Char Dham pilgrims have been advised to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures and coordinate with state government authorities before travelling to the hills.The weatherman has also issued an orange alert - heavy to very heavy rainfall - for Wednesday and Thursday in isolated areas of the state.Many parts of the state have witnessed heavy showers in the past few days.
