DEHRADUN: The Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Global Tiger Forum (GTF) have included the Lansdowne forest division (FD) in Garhwal in the list of areas accredited under the Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CATS) scheme. This makes it easier to get funds from international agencies for any project related to tiger conservation . It is a matter of great honour for the state that one of its forest division has made it to the CATS list.”The accreditation will remain valid for a period of three years after which the state forest department will have to apply for its renewal. Under the CATS scheme, incentive is provided to those responsible for management of tiger conservation areas.Lansdowne is only the third region in the world after Chitwan National Park in Nepal and a forest in Russia to be included in the list.Chief wildlife warden DVS Khati said, “CATS accreditation is given to a forest division outside a tiger reserve which has significant tiger population.
