Rekha Arya pedals to raise awareness on skewed sex ration in state

Dehradun: Uttarakhand women and child welfare minister Rekha Arya cycled from her official residence at Yamuna colony to the BJP office at Balbir Road for holding a Janata Darbar on Monday afternoon, much to the surprise of her party cadres.Accompanied by her staff, Arya reached the party office at 2 pm where complainants were waiting for her. The minister had earlier announced that she will cycle from Dehradun to Haridwar, a distance of almost 55 km for a Beti Bachao Beti Padhao function on September in which union minister Maneka Gandhi is also scheduled to take part.“I have decided to cycle from Dehradun to Haridwar to spread the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign and to highlight the problems of the skewed sex-ratio similar cycle rallies will be organized in Pithoragarh, Haridwar, Champawat and other districts,” Arya said.When asked that her cycle rally will throw the highway traffic out of gear for hours, she said, “Restriction on large vehicles come into effect during Kanwar yatra and other similar religious occasions so this should not be a problem for anyone,” she said.According to the tentative plan, over 40 people would take part in the rally scheduled to be flagged off by CM Trivendra Singh Rawat from Parade Ground in Dehradun.The minister, however, remained unmoved even as the opposition criticized her rally.
