NAINITAL: Five people, including three residents of Nainital, have been arrested in Muzaffarnagar in UP for allegedly possessing illegal fire arms. The involvement of an elected member of the civic body in buying illegal arms brings a bad name to the town.”The officers at Nainital municipal corporation declined to comment. Upon questioning, they tried to flee and were caught by the team.”Janmejay Khanduri, senior superintendent of police, Nainital, said that they were yet to receive official confirmation from Muzaffarnagar police about the arrest of Nainital residents. All three accused are residents of Sukhataal.Residents expressed shock at the involvement of an elected member of the local municipal corporation.Intekhab Alam, a resident, said, “After the chairman of the corporation, its members are considered eminent citizens.

The other two accused, identified as Kallu and Saddam, belong to Muzaffarnagar district.A case has been registered under the Arms Act, 1959 against the accused and five country made revolvers have been seized from them.D P Singh, sub inspector, Muzaffarnagar, and officer in charge of the operation, said, “Our team was on patrol duty when at around 6pm on Wednesday when we spotted a group near Tawli and Lachera villages.
