UGC asks varsities to undertake cleanliness activities

DEHRADUN: The University Grants Commission (UGC) in a recent circular sent to higher education institutions across India, has asked them to undertake a series of activities from September 20 till October 2 to ensure cleanliness on campus.The activities include cleaning of buildings, corridors, toilets etc through effective garbage collection and solid waste management system. Most institutes have welcomed the directive. Meanwhile, staff and students have also been asked to visit a nearby locality or village to hold a hygiene sensitization programme or rally/meeting and carry out informed discussions related to cleanliness.UGC has also directed varsities to send photos and videos of activities undertaken by October 6. The commission has also asked institutions to conduct tree plantation ‘depending on the size of the campus’ or else plant 70 trees to signify the 70 years of Independence.Besides hygiene sensitisation programme, a pledge to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in all aspects of daily life and to make others to follow suit by teachers, students should also to be taken, the commission’s directive added.
