Heavy rains predicted in U'khand for Friday, authorities on alert

DEHRADUN: The weather experts have predicted heavy rains in different parts of Uttarakhand on Friday and asked the authorities concerned to remain alert. Showers have already started in Kumaon region on Thursday, and rains are likely to lash parts of Garhwal region on Friday. Whereas in Garhwal, there were possibilities of heavy rains in range of 115.6mm to 204.mm. "According to Singh, the number of locations where heavy rains would be witnessed would be more in the Garhwal region when compared to Kumaon. When contacted, Director Met Centre Dehradun, Bikram Singh told TOI, "We had predicted rains during this period.

The State Emergency Operation Centre has written to all 13 district magistrates and district police chief to keep their teams on alert so that they could reach any location at the earliest in case of any emergency. According to weathermen, there would be a let up in the heavy rain spell from Saturday but light to moderate showers would continue for a period of few days.As per the State Emergency Operation Centre warning letter, heavy rain fall (65.5 mm to 115.5 mm) was expected at some locations in Kumaon region. Whereas in Garhwal, there were possibilities of heavy rains in range of 115.6mm to 204.mm. When contacted, Director Met Centre Dehradun, Bikram Singh told TOI, "We had predicted rains during this period. Showers have already started in Kumaon region on Thursday, and rains are likely to lash parts of Garhwal region on Friday."According to Singh, the number of locations where heavy rains would be witnessed would be more in the Garhwal region when compared to Kumaon. "From Saturday, there would be light to moderate rains in different parts of the state," he added.
