U’khand HC orders interim stay on regularisation of jobs of 158 assembly staff

NAINITAL: Uttarakhand high court (HC) on Friday ordered an interim stay on the regularisation of jobs of 158 personnel of the state legislative assembly (employed during the tenure of former assembly speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal) and asked the secretariat of the assembly to submit its response by October 7.In June this year, a PIL had been filed in the court alleging various irregularities in the appointment of as many as 158 people in the state assembly between December 16 and 22 last year. The positions on which the appointments were made included that of clerks, peons and others.The PIL was filed by Rajesh Chandola, a resident of Bageshwar district, who alleged that “rules were bent and there was favouritism in filling up the posts within the assembly.” The petition stated that out of the 158 appointments, 78 vacancies were filled from the ranks of the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limted (UPNL) while the remaining posts were filled “without the vacancies being properly advertised.”Vinay Kumar, counsel for the petitioner told TOI, “We are thankful to the court for considering this matter favourably and ordering an interim stay in the regularisation of jobs of people who we believe were recruited in clear violation of rules.”
