Man names cops, doc in his suicide note

In a suicide note, the deceased man, Gururaj Singh, has alleged that five officials of the Haryana police force, five personnel of US Nagar police and a few others had harassed him for a period of one year. RUDRAPUR: A 22-year-old disabled man from the sleepy Nanakmatta town in Udham Singh (US) Nagar committed suicide by consuming poison on late Tuesday night after being allegedly harassed by Haryana police and sleuths of Udham Singh Nagar police. In a suicide note, the deceased man, Gururaj Singh, has alleged that five officials of the Haryana police force, five personnel of US Nagar police and a few others had harassed him for a period of one year. A complaint was filed by the youth’s mother at the US Nagar police station on Wednesday. Police, in the meanwhile, has refuted the charges and said Gururaj took the extreme step out of depression-related illness.According to Ashok Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Nanakmatta police station, Gururaj was booked in two different cases in Udham Singh Nagar and Haryana in 2009 and 2016 respectively. While he was booked in a case of theft in 2009, he was named as one of the accused in a case of loot that took place at a petrol pump on the intervening night of December 30-31 at Dharuhera in Rewari district of Haryana. While officials said that Gururaj was injured when he was allegedly fleeing from police in January 2017, the deceased had later filed a complaint saying he was shot at by Haryana police due to which his left leg had to be amputated. A resident of Kalyanpur Bhatta in Nanakmatta of US Nagar district, Gururaj died at a private hospital during treatment on Wednesday.“Gururaj was taken to the Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani where his leg had to be amputated after the accident injury,” SHO Kumar said.Gururaj’s mother, Sukhdev Kaur, 64, filed a complaint against Haryana and US Nagar police officials for allegedly framing him in “false cases” and harassing him “in the name of interrogation”. “The police even tried to raid our house several times and had whisked him away to the police station on several occasions,” she said.In his suicide note, Gururaj has named SHO of Dharuhera, Kuldeep Singh, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Naresh Kumar, ASI Virendra Singh, constables Amit Kumar and Virendra Singh from Rewari police. He has also alleged sub-inspector (SI) of Nanakmatta, Yogesh Kumar; SI of US Nagar police station, Sonika Joshi; the then in-charge of Pulbhatta police outpost, Harendra Chaudhary; constables Pritam Singh and Sunil Kumar of the Baraa police outpost for harassment. He also mentioned names of two Dharuhera residents, Shyam Kishor and Babulal besides Dr Ganesh Singh of Sushila Tiwari Hospital for wrongly amputating his leg.Talking to TOI, senior superintendent of police (SSP), US Nagar, Sadanand Date, said, “Gururaj had filed a compensation case against Haryana police after he lost his leg in the operation. He was arrested in February and was out on bail in June. The matter will be investigated further.”Dr Ganesh Singh of Sushila Tiwari Hospital, who had treated Gururaj, said, “When the patient was brought, his leg was badly injured and infected. We had to amputate it or the infection could have caused his death. It was never a bullet injury.”
