New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Centre to take serious note in filling up the vacancies of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The court directed to fill up the Commission within ninety days from today. The direction was passed while hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a Supreme Court lawyer. The bench noted the fact that NCPCR is a ‘statutory body’ that deals with highly important aspects related to the children and an earlier order passed by the Supreme Court in the PIL to make the NCPCR fully functional. The entire NCPCR will become a non-entity in September this year as the chairperson and other members are going to demit office after completing their tenure. Whereas, the counsel appearing for the Ministry of Women and Child Development sought more time to fill up the vacancies. The Ministry has issued fresh advertisements for filling up of the vacancies.
