WB govt ignorant about Anand Marriage Act: Sirsa

Sirsa said feelings of whole Sikh community had been hurt by the casual approach of Mamta Benerjee and her government towards the Anand Marriage Act. Sirsa expressed shock that Parliament had passed the Anand Marriage Amendment Act in 2012 which was duly approved by the President and published in the Gazette of India in June 2012. The act has been implemented in around 14 states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pardesh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, etc., but the West Bengal Government was totally ignorant about this. Sirsa said not only the state governments in the country implemented the act, but Pakistan was also working to implement provisions of the act for the Sikhs community there. He said such ignorance on the part of the government indicated failure of the government on performing its constitutional duty.

Tribune News Servic New Delhi, February 23 After a shocking revelations by the West Bengal Government on being ignorant about the Anand Marriage Act, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has taken up issue with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee, and urged her to get this act implemented in her state to facilitate large number of Sikhs in West Bengal to get their marriages registered under the act.
