Dental Council of India sends warning to curb unauthorised courses

The notice states that any dental qualification granted by a person or institution is not valid unless it is according to the norms of Dental Council of India's Act and Regulations. The dentist fraternity finds that these types of courses are immoral, unethical, and illegal and thus should be dealt with strictly.

The council has stated that these courses cause health risks to individuals and thus will attract legal proceedings and punishments under the dentists Act. The notice states that any dental qualification granted by a person or institution is not valid unless it is according to the norms of Dental Council of India's Act and Regulations. These courses might be technically wrong and thus will compromise a patient's health and may require corrective re-treatment resulting in extra resources. "Many institutes/doctors run these month-long certificate courses. The candidates then operate clinics mentioning these courses on their letterheads, thus diluting the system," said Dr Sabyasachi Saha, Secretary, Dental Council of India. "We are now in the process of streamlining the practices and also making strict guidelines for the courses, which will be released in the coming two months. The doctors providing these courses may also get barred," Saha said. The council in its notice has made clear that the candidates taking up these illegal courses are neither entitled for registration nor for any job and are liable to be initiated or taken action under Section 47 to 49 of the Dentists Act, 1948 and Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014, or any other law. The dentist fraternity finds that these types of courses are immoral, unethical, and illegal and thus should be dealt with strictly. The soon-to-be-released guidelines will confirm the action against the alleged doctors.
