Rajpal Yadav gets 6-month jail in cheque bounce case

Ltd., had extended an inter-corporate loan of ?5 crore to Mr. Yadav for making a film titled ‘Ata Pata Lapata’ in 2010.

The court clarified that all the sentences would be served concurrently. The court had on April 14 held the actor, his wife Radha Rajpal Yadav and their film production company Messrs Naurang Godavari Limited guilty in the case. The court did not send his wife to jail saying, “She is a woman and keeping in view her medical condition, no sentence of imprisonment is awarded to Ms. Yadav.” Also, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Arora asked the couple to collectively pay ?11.9 crore to the complainant, ?11.2 crore by the actor and ?70 lakh by his wife. The court later granted bail to the actor on furnishing a bail bond of ?50,000 with one surety of a like amount for filing an appeal against his conviction in the High Court. They rejected a plea by the actor for a lenient punishment. “Record reflects that convicts made several undertakings... claiming that the amount will be repaid, however, to no avail. It shows that the approach of convict number 2 (Rajpal Yadav) is highly contemptuous... ,” the court said. The complainant in the matter, Messrs Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd., had extended an inter-corporate loan of ?5 crore to Mr. Yadav for making a film titled ‘Ata Pata Lapata’ in 2010. Assured to pay ?8 crore Mr. Yadav had assured to pay ?8 crore to the lender, said the complainant. As per the last agreement, the actor promised the company that he would pay ?11.10 crore, principal amount and the interest accrued on it.
