Cabinet triples beds in Burari, doubles ASHA incentives

Tribune News ServiceNew Delhi, May 22The Delhi government has decided to increase the bed strength of the under construction hospital in Burari from 200 to 768 beds. “The latest proposal of having 568 more beds will be achieved with a revised estimate of Rs 265. Further, information shared by the PWD stated that 65 per cent of the entire work and 85 per cent of the hospital structure has been completed so far. It’s a proposal of the Health Department in this regard with a revised estimate of Rs 265.80 crore was approved today by the Delhi Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here.

New Delhi, May 22 The Delhi government has decided to increase the bed strength of the under construction hospital in Burari from 200 to 768 beds. It’s a proposal of the Health Department in this regard with a revised estimate of Rs 265.80 crore was approved today by the Delhi Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here. The Cabinet also gave its nod to doubling of financial incentives for ASHA workers. It was after a review of the Burari hospital project, a decision was taken that some structural adjustment is required to accommodate more number of beds in this new hospital, which will cater to the healthcare needs of the residents of north Delhi. “The latest proposal of having 568 more beds will be achieved with a revised estimate of Rs 265. 80 crore in place of Rs 200 crore estimated earlier. Approximately 1,700 posts will have to be created for making this new hospital functional,” officials stated. This new hospital is a seven-storey structure and is supposed to have a barrier-free environment to cater to the needs of physically challenged persons for which specific changes in building designs have been done, as per officials. Further, information shared by the PWD stated that 65 per cent of the entire work and 85 per cent of the hospital structure has been completed so far. With all latest facilities the hospital with modern design is energy efficient. Another major proposal of the department for doubling the incentives for ASHA workers, with the core incentive now being hiked from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 under the Accredited Social Health Activist Scheme got the go-ahead from the Cabinet. Similarly, in all other categories also, the incentive has been doubled. In order to support ASHAs during pregnancy they will be provided a maternity benefit of Rs 2,000 per month for a period of six months during the prenatal period.
