NEW DELHI: Delhi IAS officers are ready for formal discussions with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to end the impasse in the Delhi government "Officers of Delhi government welcome CM's appeal. We reiterate that we continue to be at work with full dedication and vigour. We look forward to concrete interventions for our security and dignity. We are open to formal discussions with CM on this matter," the IAS AGMUT Association said after a meeting held at Delhi secretariat where they discussed the appeal made by Kejriwal yesterday.Responding to the IAS officers' remarks that they avoid some meetings with AAP ministers because they feel "unsafe", CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday issued an emotional appeal to the bureucrats, assuring them of safety in meetings. In an appeal issued on Twitter, Kejriwal said the “IAS officers are part of his family” and gave public assurance of safety and security to the bureaucrats in meetings with ministers while appealing to them on Twitter to stop the boycott of the elected government and return to work, start attending all meetings of ministers, respond to their calls and messages and join them in field inspections.Reacting to Kejriwal's appeal, a senior IAS officer in Delhi government said, “We have been sincerely working with full dedication and we never boycotted the elected government, even then the CM has appealed to us to stop the boycott of the elected government and return to work. This is a strange situation."Another IAS officer said the CM’s appeal was like a general statement and there is no detail of how he would ensure the safety and security of the bureaucrats. In the past, Kejriwal had privately ensured the bureaucrats of safety and security. The appeal had come as a surprise to many IAS officers because Kejriwal has been unrelenting in his demands that the LG should direct the IAS officers to end the “strike” and also take punitive action against the bureaucrats who have been boycotting the government for the last four months. In the appeal, Kejriwal said he will ensure the safety and security of officers with all the powers and resources available at his command. “It is my duty. I have given similar assurances earlier also to many officers who have been meeting me privately. I reiterate it today,” he said in the appeal which is likely to be considered by the IAS officers on Monday. The officers have left the ball in Kejriwal's court and now the CM will have to take a call on whether he is ready for a formal discussion with the IAS officers.
