Cops pose as customers to nail copper thieves

A similar incident happened two weeks later when approximately 900 kg of copper was taken from a factory in northeast Delhi. A CCTV camera captured the incident in which the accused were seen going in a white Maruti 800 car. The same car was seen in the cameras. The other accused have been identified as Rohit alias Billu, Rahul, Chhotu and Nadeem.Cops said that Sehwag and his men robbed a construction site in Karawal Nagar and fled with 600 kg of copper after locking the security guard in a cubicle. NEW DELHI: A gang of criminals that had been breaking into construction sites across NCR and looting industrial grade copper was busted after cops went in as decoy customers to lure them.The gang, led by one Virender alias Sehwag (28), had recently looted approximately 1,500 kilograms of copper from two construction sites in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar , when it came on the cops' radar.DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said that the gang had been smelting the metal and selling it in the grey market .
