Minor raped in Kamla Market

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in central Delhi’s Kamla Market on Saturday, the police said. Teams were formed to look for the girl and around 11.30 p.m., she was found in Kamla Market in a semi-conscious state. “The girl was taken for medical examination at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital where it was confirmed that she had been raped. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa confirmed the arrest of Ajay alias Baiju, a ragpicker and a drug addict. The police said the victim who lives on the footpath with her parents near Minto Road, went missing on Saturday evening.

Teams were formed to look for the girl and around 11.30 p.m., she was found in Kamla Market in a semi-conscious state. “The girl was taken for medical examination at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital where it was confirmed that she had been raped. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital,” the officer said. Sections of rape and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act were added in the First Information Report and investigation was taken up. Probe under way When the father, a rickshaw-puller, was asked if he suspected anyone, he allegedly told the police that he suspects involvement of an eunuch in the area who might have kidnapped her. “The investigation is ongoing. The suspicions are being verified and teams are looking for the person mentioned by the father,” the officer said. “On enquiry made on the lines of who the girl was last seen with, the police teams zeroed in on Ajay,” the officer said. The officer claimed that Ajay was under the influence of drugs when he was picked up and he claimed that he found the girl in the area and was going to drop her home. Delhi Commission of Women, in a statement, said that Swati Maliwal met the family of the victim who is in a critical state.
