Weekend rain to continue at least till Wed

Met office said Delhi is likely to see spells of rain continuously over the next five days — light to moderate showers.Strong showers were reported in parts of central, south and west Delhi, along with Noida and Gurgaon on Saturday. The maximum temperature will be around 34 degrees, however, humidity level is expected to remain on the higher side,” said an official.Meanwhile, traffic police officers said waterlogging was recorded in areas like GT Karnal Road, Jahangirpuri, Adarsh Nagar, Nangloi, Mundka, Shalimar Bagh, Model Town, Mukherjee Nagar, Timarpur and Civil Lines, leading to traffic snarls.The rains also led to incidents of water leak at some Delhi metro stations. “There are around 208 metro stations in the rapidly expanding DMRC network in the capital and in case any leakage is noticed at any of the stations, necessary corrective action is initiated at the earliest,” said Anuj Dayal, executive director (corporate communications), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.“Some amount of leakage is normal in all underground stations which are routinely drained out while dripping at elevated stations sometimes need more detailed attention since false ceilings also have to be tackled,” he added.PWD minister Satyendar Jain also held a review meeting on Saturday for prevention of waterlogging and asked all agencies to furnish daily reports on the areas getting affected.The met office forecasts moderate rain on Sunday with light showers expected on both Monday and Tuesday.
