Under-construction five-storey building collapses in Ghaziabad, one killed, nine injured

Barely six days after the twin building collapse in Greater Noida's Shahberi area, an under-construction five-storey building collapsed in Ghaziabad's Masuri area on Sunday killing one person and injuring nine others. The incident comes six days after twin building collapsed in Shahberi village of Greater Noida. According to reports, the building, located in Misal Garhi area of Masuri, collapsed around 3 pm.

Barely six days after the twin building collapse in Greater Noida's Shahberi area, an under-construction five-storey building collapsed in Ghaziabad's Masuri area on Sunday killing one person and injuring nine others. Rescue operation is underway and the police suspect many people feared trapped under the debris. According to reports, the building, located in Misal Garhi area of Masuri, collapsed around 3 pm. The building was near completion and no one was living in it. However, many labourers were working at the construction site when the incident took place. Locals and officials from the Ghaziabad Police immediately rescued at least four labourers, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) performed the major drive. The police said that the rescued persons included two children and two women. The injured people admitted to a nearby hospital. The police officials said that the owner of the building was identified as Prasanjeet who has been absconding from his residence soon after the incident. Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna said that the rescue operation was being undertaken at a fast pace, however, rain and water logging in the area caused some hindrances. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed District Magistrate and SSP Ghaziabad to visit the site of building collapse and to take immediate action for rescue operations along with NDRF and lodge an FIR and take action against those guilty. The CM also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family members of the deceased while a help of Rs 50, 000 will be provided to the family members of those found injured in the incident. Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter. Meerut divisional Commissioner, Amita C Meshram, has been appointed by the government to probe into the matter. Notably, Ritu Maheshwari is also the vice-chairperson of Ghaziabad Development Authority which oversees the construction of buildings in Ghaziabad area. The incident comes six days after twin building collapsed in Shahberi village of Greater Noida. On July 17, a six-floor under-construction building crashed on a six-storey building next to it, bringing it down as well. At the time of the accident at least 12 labourers and 8-10 families were residing in the buildings. Nine people, including an infant, were killed in the collapse.
