NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl at his tuition centre in southeast Delhi’s East of Kailash area. The girl is a Class IX student at a private school in Greater Kailash DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said the accused was arrested under IPC section of sexual harassment and Section 12 of the POCSO Act. He was produced before a magistrate on Friday and sent to judicial custody.Police said the teenager joined the tuition centre three months ago. She told cops that the accused used to call her before classes and allegedly used to touch her inappropriately during the lessons. He also used to ask the minor to come to his room after the classes got over. He also tried to converse with her through text messages.The ordeal, according to a police officer, continued and increased over time as the teacher, who also taught in the same private school, allegedly started asking the girl to travel in his car. However, when she refused to respond to his advances, the accused allegedly tried to coerce her through fear and started scolding her in the class.The survivor finally broke down and told her mother about the incident. She was taken to Amar Colony police station where a case was registered and the accused was arrested from his house.Cops said that the girl is currently undergoing counselling to overcome her trauma.
