With senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh offerring his resignation from the party on Wednesday, several party members claimed that they already saw it coming with his limited participation in the party activities of late. Even as Ashutosh has cited "very very personal" reasons behind the move, party members claimed that he might embark on a new journey soon. According to sources, he may get back to his old profession and continue working as a journalist. "Ashutosh was not actively seen involved in the party activities for the past few months. People close to him said that he is considering to start his own online news portal," a senior party leader claimed. Ashutosh's resignation is being interpreted differently with some AAP insiders claiming that he was unhappy over the party's decision to send a businessman to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi. Others claimed that he was "angry" over being denied a Rajya Sabha ticket by the party. While several leaders have requested him to reconsider his decision, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta has hinted on an internal rivalry."This is his personal decision. He has been giving anti-party statements for a few months," he said while speaking to media. Ashutosh is the latest in the string of leaders leaving the AAP. Several other leaders including Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Mayank Gandhi and Bhagwant Mann, have already discontinued their associations with the party. Even Kumar Vishwas, who is still officially associated with the party, has had several spats with top leaders since last year. While party chief Arvind Kejriwal has been trying to strengthen the leadership ahead of 2019 general elections, sources said that cracks have already started to appear within the party. "Several party leaders are disgruntled with top leadership. There needs to be an overhaul in the party functioning before the 2019 elections," said a senior party leader. Meanwhile, the party is struggling with the similar crises in neighboring Punjab over the leadership. Last week, Punjab AAP in-charge Manish Sisodia rejected nine party MLAs' demand to take back the decision to remove Bholath legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira as the leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Vidhan Sabha.
