Absconding gangster held 8 years after murdering rival

NEW DELHI: Eight years after murdering his rival, absconding gangster Narender of the Naveen Khati gang was arrested in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla on Sunday. The police said after the murder, Narender went into hiding. The murder triggered a gang war between the two factions active in Najafgarh and the nearby areas, killing more than 12 people. After getting arrested in a robbery case, he was lodged in the same cell as that of Khati, who roped him in the gang. They also claimed that nobody knew about his past, cops said.Investigating officers said Narender had been associated with various crimes since 1995.

NEW DELHI: Eight years after murdering his rival, absconding gangster Narender of the Naveen Khati gang was arrested in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla on Sunday. The murder had sparked off a deadly gang war in southwest and outer Delhi.Confirming the develoments, additional CP (crime) A K Singla said a Crime Branch team under DCP Bhisham Singh arrested Narender, who has been involved in more than 15 cases of murder, robbery and car snatchings in southwest Delhi.The absconding gangster, a close aide of Khati, had been living near Chhawla for several years using the identity of his brother, Kapil Yadav.Along with Khati, Narender had, in 2010, murdered their rival, Pradeep, an associate of gangster Ravinder. The murder triggered a gang war between the two factions active in Najafgarh and the nearby areas, killing more than 12 people. The police said after the murder, Narender went into hiding. He had cut the ties with his family but used his brother’s identity to avoid cops.After hiding in several places, Narender settled in Shyam Vihar, Chhawla, and married a widow with three children. He also got a driving licence issued in his new name and started working with an app-based cab company while maintaining a low profile. Meanwhile, after arresteing Khati in the murder case, the Crime Branch started looking for Narender.A team led by ACP Aditya Gautam and inspector Sunil Jain recently received an information that Narender had been living in Shyam Vihar and sent a team to verify this. After getting the confirmation, the team raided the house and arrested him.His new family members told cops that he would leave early from the house and would come late at night. They also claimed that nobody knew about his past, cops said.Investigating officers said Narender had been associated with various crimes since 1995. After getting arrested in a robbery case, he was lodged in the same cell as that of Khati, who roped him in the gang.
