South Delhi: Owner of house help providing agency held for duping 20 families

Over 20 families of South Delhi's RK Puram area have been duped by an agency that provides house helps. The families alleged that the agency had taken about Rs 25,000 from each family as commission to provide domestic help. The incident came to light when over 20 families registered a complaint against it at RK Puram police station. Last year, he started an agency of his own, but soon, instead of providing service, he started duping his consumers. However, in all instances, the domestic help quit within four days, citing several excuses.

Over 20 families of South Delhi's RK Puram area have been duped by an agency that provides house helps. The agency was run by Ranjeet Rawat, a resident of Uttrakhand, who was employed as a field boy for other agnecies. Last year, he started an agency of his own, but soon, instead of providing service, he started duping his consumers. The incident came to light when over 20 families registered a complaint against it at RK Puram police station. The families alleged that the agency had taken about Rs 25,000 from each family as commission to provide domestic help. However, in all instances, the domestic help quit within four days, citing several excuses. By the time the police could take cognizance of the matter, the owner fled. Investigation revealed there was another agency the accused had been running in Kotla Mubarakpur area, where consumers had been cheated in a similar manner. Rawat was arrested from his office after a raid was conducted by the police, and later admitted to committing the crime. "He used to tell his clients that he has over 10 years of experience in the field and demanded advance commission ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000," said Devender Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West.
