more-in The Special Investigation Team, which is conducting the probe into the Rewari gang-rape case, told the court on Friday that two of the absconding accused are suspected to be hiding in Rajasthan’s Kota. Meanwhile, police remand of prime accused Nishu was extended till September 25. Tight security Following the end of their four-day police remand, the three accused were produced before Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Piyush Sharma at Mahendergarh’s Kanina court in the afternoon amid tight security. The police sought extension of Nishu’s remand on the grounds that Army constable Pankaj and his accomplice Manish could be hiding in Kota and that Nishu could help identify their hideout. The police told the court that Pankaj, whose regiment was stationed at Kota, had rented a room in the city and the place was frequented by Nishu and Manish. Nishu’s counsel Savinder Singh opposed the extension of the remand. However, the court overruled the objection saying that the absconding accused are wanted in a heinous crime and need to be arrested at the earliest. The police told the court that a mobile phone and some glucose bottles had been recovered at the instance of the accused during the remand. Quack Sanjeev and tube well room owner Deen Dayal have been remanded to judicial custody till October 5. They will be lodged at Nasibpur Jail in Narnaul. Sanjeev’s counsel Sandeep Singh said both the accused will be produced through videoconferencing on the next date of hearing to save the cost of travel and in view of security concerns. The counsel moved a bail application for his client, contending that Sanjeev had not been named in the First Information Report and the victim’s statement to the Magistrate. The bail application has been fixed for reply by the prosecution on September 25. Sources present in court told The Hindu that the police had moved an application seeking an arrest warrant for another man in the case under Section 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person) of IPC. The man is suspected to have been present at the time of incident. The victim’s family has maintained that nearly half a dozen more people are involved in the gang rape, besides the three identified by the teenager. However, the application was withdrawn after the court refused to issue non-bailable warrants on charges pressed by the police, said a source. Nishu’s counsel also confirmed the development.
