11-year-old patient raped by hospital sweeper

An 11-year-old was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old sweeper inside Rohini’s ESI Hospital in the small hours of Friday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said accused Radhey Shyam, resident of Samaypur Badli, was arrested from the hospital itself. “The PCR received a call at 6 a.m., after which a team reached the spot and arrested Radhey,” Mr. Gupta said. Radhey, who slept in a small room adjacent to the ward, spotted the girl. He forced her inside the room, where he allegedly raped her.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said accused Radhey Shyam, resident of Samaypur Badli, was arrested from the hospital itself. The police said the victim was admitted to the hospital on September 13 and had been recuperating in the general ward, with her mother as the attendant. Stomach ache “Around 4.30 a.m. on Friday, the girl stepped out of the ward due to stomach ache,” the officer said. Radhey, who slept in a small room adjacent to the ward, spotted the girl. He forced her inside the room, where he allegedly raped her. He also threatened her with dire consequences before letting her go, the police said. However, the girl returned to the ward and told her mother about the incident, following which the accused was nabbed by persons present in the ward. “The PCR received a call at 6 a.m., after which a team reached the spot and arrested Radhey,” Mr. Gupta said. The police have registered a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
